Freewheeling

Day 3: "Pick a shortish poem you like and rewrite each line changing a word,  or as many words as you can,  with words that mean the opposite.  This is a fun way to respond to a poem you like,  while also learning how that poem's rhetorical strategies really work."

I chose the first stanza of Warning by Jenny Joseph and ended up with an idyllic picture of childhood.

Freewheeling

When you were a young girl you wore pink
With a white sunhat, which made you look adorable.
You saved your pocket money for sweets and trinkets
Went around barefoot, the world was yours for the asking.
You ran helter-skelter, never getting tired,
Avoided trips into town, preferred the peacefulness of nature,
Peered inquisitively through hedges into people's front gardens,
Laughed with the exuberance of youth.
You wore wellingtons in the sunshine,
Planted seeds in your own small patch of the garden,
And perfected your smile.
