Slow swim day

I've no idea why I didn't feel the usual joy of moving through water this morning.  Instead of watching the clock, keeping my pace up to a length every minute,  I found my clock watching was in despair at the time moving so slowly - like me!  Today is a slow swim day. Limbs weigh heavy and stiff, Concrete, cleaving through treacle. Breath calm and steady,  Keeping pace with each stroke,  None of the usual gasping, spluttering. I'm here because it's booked,  Because this is what I do on a Sunday morning,  Because I need the exercise,  Because it's the third day of constant rain.   Not because I want to be.  I sentence myself to extra time - Punishment for the lack of speed, The dearth of lengths clocked up: Turn and swim an extra ten minutes.  Copyright Chris Auger 2020.
