Dancing

Dancing Since I've had trouble with my feet and knees I've missed being able to dance,  especially in a wild "letting everything go" way. This poem celebrates the loss of self in that sort of dancing - I must be feeling nostalgic! Dancing, dancing, Bare feet pounding, Connecting to the earth, Tremors travelling Up through each body Down into the soil, Transferring energy Each to the other In a wildly joyful feedback loop. Dancing, dancing Limbs wildly waving, Responding to the group, Forwards and back, up and down, Sideways, in a ripple Inwards and out, Moving in harmony Each with the others Instinct taking over as thought disappears. © Copyright 2019. Birth day thoughts

Birth day thoughts My daughter is coming up for her 40th birthday in a few weeks time.  It seems like quite a milestone, for me as well as her! Whenever either of my children have a birthday it always makes me think of the day of their birth. This is for you Jenny x How could I have known When I held you under my heart Bursting with love for your newborn body That this rush of love Could grow with you Year, by year, by year? © Copyright 2019. Samhain chain

Samhain chain As well as being Halloween October 31st is Samhain on the pagan calender,  a time when we think about our ancestors. Each generation thinks they know it all,  but just occasionally we think of our ancestors as having an ancient wisdom. Let's light a candle To those who went before Who broke new ground Who thought they knew better Until they came to realise the wisdom Of those who came before. Let say a prayer For those who're yet to come Who'll break new ground Who'll think they know better Until they come to realise the wisdom Of those who came before. © Copyright 2019. Chris Auger. Unseasonal bleatings

Unseasonal  bleatings I cherish seasonality and hate it when supermarkets introduce items way before their time. Into a supermarket In mid September Christmas has been sneaking Stealthily, shelf by shelf Hoping we won't notice it's turned up too early. Christmas before Halloween? It's like pumpkins in July! Hot cross buns in January! Hearts and flowers in November! I want to complain to the manager - There's 100 days until Christmas! It should be greeted with joy, With warm, fuzzy anticipation, Not this unseasonal irritation. You've turned me into a humbug! © Copyright 2019. Chris Auger. All Rights Reserved

Alternative Christmas

Alternative Christmas Yes,  I know  it's too early to be thinking about the C- word but there's a competition I'm thinking of entering and they need entries submitted by 15th November,  which isn't that far away! I doubt this will make the cut but I thought I'd share my first attempt. I'm dreaming of a green Christmas Unlike the ones we used to know We'll reuse the tree for the fourteenth year Leave the living ones  free to grow. I've found a stash of odd greeting cards Left over from years gone by If I can remember who I've sent which ones to I won't need to buy more this time. I'm determined not to rush around the shops Trying to think what people would enjoy I'm making the presents myself instead Chutney, jam, sloe gin,  knitted toys. We're not jetting or sailing away this year (Our planned Christmas break was a cruise) Now it's cancelled we'll be staying beside the log fire Drowning disappointment wi
