Reflections

Reflections

I'm spending a few hours every evening sitting by the lake while my husband fishes for catfish and carp.  It's very peaceful,  watching the play of light on the trees and their reflections in the water.

The last hour of sunlight
Gilds the bankside trees
Like a scene from a nostalgic cine film
Fading to yellow since the 1970s.

Sunlight shimmers on the lower branches
Lighting up the trunks like lanterns
Shining brightly
In the lake's dark depths.

You pull fish after fish
Out of the lake,
Disturbing these reflections
With ripples.
