Travel broadens the Mind

I've found a couple more poems that I wrote a week or so ago and forgot to post on here.  This one is a 'found' poem - a strangely satisfying concept where you take written phrases found around you and link them together in a new way. Not surprisingly the phrases that jumped out at me from various magazines on the coffee table were on the theme of travel. Each stanza consists of individual phrases from each magazine, and as is the etiquette in these matters I have credited the sources to the right of its first phrase.

Travel Broadens the Mind, a Found Poem

In a unique and friendly atmosphere                                                Dil Raj takeaway menu
Discover authentic flavour
Served straight from the cooking range
To enhance both dishes and your appetite.
Open 7 days a week,
please do not hesitate to ask.

Live your travel story, counting down the days,                             Newmarket Holidays
indulge in some strawberries and cream,
soak up the pomp and pageantry
on an odyssey of cultural enlightenment.
Catch your breath;
connect with the untamed natural world.

Without costing a fortune                                                                 which? Magazine
discover the best and worst;
it doesn’t need fancy features to be loved.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise
this year sees big changes,
to suit a range of preferences and lifestyles.

If you can find a new approach                                                          Writing magazine
it seamlessly blends
Small stories that together tell a big story;
A skill accomplished very admirably.
Extraordinary joy can be found in small pleasures,
a favourite place to go on a Saturday morning.

Find inspiration and get involved,                                                     Boundless magazine
never happier than when
migratory waterbirds abound in winter.
Explore with all your senses;
finish with a pint of local ale.
Nowhere else on earth can rival this.
