Grief
Day 2: Pick 5-10 words from the list provided and write down an image for each in answer to the question, what is X? Don't worry about strict logic- this is an exercise in surrealism. Place all the answers on a fresh page and form a poem out of them. My words were: longing, salt, river, fog, ghost, song. I decided to change the title as the images suggested the passion of grief, rather than longing.
Grief
A wolf howl erupting from a sealed box,
A taste sliding from dead eyes to tightly stretched lips,
An infinity of drops hurtling towards the ocean,
Seen through the filmy gauze of unwanted cataracts.
The hint of precious times drifting just beyond the memory
Of a joy so bright it burst the chains on my soul.
