Succession
Today was the State opening of Parliament, with Prince Charles standing in for the Queen, so I thought I'd watch it on TV. While the pomp and ceremony of the occasion was indicative of the longevity of the monarchy, it rather brought home the mortality of individual monarchs.
Amid the pageant, the red and gold,
The Prince of Wales is looking old.
Although the Queen's not stepping down
She's represented by her Crown.
A sign of things to come, alas,
Elizabethan rule is almost past.
We'll rally round King Charles, until,
It is the time for good King Will.
