Jubilee musings
Day 8: I'm going off piste today, as I am not inspired by today's prompt (to write in the voice of your alter-ego.) Our village is arranging a celebration of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June, and has called for poetry, music, art etc. I've come up with this, but I doubt it will make the cut!
Here one sits looking stately
On one's throne
All alone
One's had a dodgy time just lately.
My dearest consort, the Danish Greek
Outrageously bold,
Simply got too old
Left one behind, to become antique.
One's son, some say one's favourite,
Chose unwise friends,
Who met bad ends,
Fingers crossed, one's covered over it.
One's grandson abruptly left the fold,
Found Megan Markle
Had greater sparkle;
The media frenzy uncontrolled.
One's reign has now turned platinum
One's son's in the wings
Thinking green things
Impatient to take the reins from one.
So one thinks to retain the throne a while
Enjoy the praise
In one's remaining days
And practice one's enigmatic smile.
