Day 2: Today's challenge is to write a poem based on a word featured in a tweet from Haggard Hawks, an account devoted to obscure and interesting English words. I found 'crocitation' - to croak like a raven. We're blessed to have ravens living nearby, and often hear them as they fly over our valley.
Self-proclaimed kings of the corvids,
Their raucous croaks precede them
Announcing their imminent arrival.
Glossy black wings adorned with purple iridescence
Outstretch in benediction, pulse slowly,
Their diamond tails weaving with the wind.
Only the rough rawness of their cries
Belies their regal origin;
No eagles these, but ravens.
