Question

 Question

The second Napowrimo challenge is to write a poem that ends with a question,  inviting the reader to continue the process of reading/ writing the poem even after it ends.  I was on my way to the gym,  and my continual  failure to turn into a lithe athlete seemed like a suitable question to pose.

Pounding the cross trainer,  pushing myself hard
To complete a kilometre in ten minutes or less,
Sweat on my brow,  dry throat,  racing heart,
For once rather pleased that my face looks a mess.

Onto the weights,  try setting them higher
Grit my teeth,  pull them up,  and around,
To say I'm enjoying this would make me a liar
But to miss it would be to let myself down.

Quotes on the wall by the bikes keep me going
To maintain RPM, to push through the miles,
The rhythm of the music keeps me from slowing
I finish the workout with the biggest of smiles.

After the gym,  euphoria's popping
It's good when you stop hitting your head on a wall
So why,  when I stop to pick up my day's shopping
Do I pause by the chocolate,  and inevitably fall?
